Carrying around three million passengers each day, in over forty major towns and cities, FirstGroup is Britain’s largest bus operator.
With so many people using their services, FirstGroup needed two new travel app’s to make buying tickets and planning journeys quick and easy. Having already partnered and impressed the team at FirstGroup with our bus livery designs, we became the obvious partner to help solve this next design problem for them.
By working closely with our client, we first developed a typical ‘user journey’. We put ourselves in the shoes of the user to begin to think about how the app’s would be used. We asked ourselves, what would be the benefits to them? What would make their lives easier? What was needed? What wasn’t?
Through sharp thinking and innovative ideas we were able to create two new customer focussed, user-friendly app’s and icons, both with on screen graphics that delivered the crucial brand feel that First Bus travellers have come to expect.
Since their launch in 2013, the app’s have been used to plan and pay for thousands of journeys. In fact, the Route Planner app has been so successful it was awarded ‘Best Use of Location Based Services’ at the 2014 Marketing on Mobile Awards.
